Children design fire engines of the future

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue celebrated its 50th anniversary by hosting a competition where over 60 young people designed future fire engines.

Children submitted creative ideas, including solar panels, eco-friendly designs, and unique features like a "plane to reach house roofs." Winners across different age categories displayed thoughtful environmental considerations in their designs.

Notable entries included a solar-powered siren from Harriet (12+ category), a Lego model from Noah (8–11 category), and a futuristic fire engine with a sleep cabin from Huxley (7 and under). Winners had the chance to meet local firefighters and try out equipment, with judges from the fire service and Scania praising the creativity of the young participants.

More than 60 young people took part in a competition to mark the 50th anniversary of Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue.
