Although the numbers vary depending on the source, the theme remains the same – Record Sales were generated around the world on Black Friday.

According to Salesforce, more than $74 Billion were spent on Black Friday, the traditional “unofficial” launch of the Holiday shopping season. This is a 5% year-on-year increase, which is bound to make retailers (and investors) happy about the prospects of a strong end-of-year push.

Some extra interesting nuggets of info from the article:

  • Adobe said 55% of all online spend in the U.S. was made on mobile devices, working out to $5.9 billion, up 12.1% year-on-year.
  • Adobe also noted that in a survey it did of 5,000 consumers in the U.S., 20% said they were using chatbots to find deals and other shopping recommendations (up 1,800% over last year).
  • Two major players in the online shopping world used fun and engaging digital sites to track shopping in real-time. Shopify created a spaceship console, and Stripe used a power generator.
