Visual Capitalist published an article in OCT 2024 showing where all the “Tech Talent” is in North America. (For my friends in other parts of the world, I'll see if I can find a global version.)

As emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and quantum computing become increasingly mainstream, the demand for skilled developers, engineers, scientists, and other tech workers is more critical than ever.

This map visualizes the biggest tech talent hubs in North America, showing the number of tech talent jobs in major cities as well as their percent change in tech talent jobs from 2018 to 2023.

The San Francisco Bay Area, the New York Metro Area, and Toronto lead the way as the top three markets for workers in technical positions. Perhaps not a surprise there, especially based on the size of the city populations overall.

But in a dominating flurry, Canadian cities locked up the Top 5 Fastest Growing tech worker populations. Calgary, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal led the way in overall growth for all North American cities.

We see you up there, Canada! Keep up the great work.

“With glowing hearts we see thee rise, The True North strong and free!
From far and wide, O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.”
