Travelling is challenging for us all, but even more so when you or one of your party has a disability such as dementia. There are passenger assistance  services at UK airports, but they aren't all equal. London Stanstead has been recognised by the CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) for their excellent passanger assistance and more recently by Essex County Council Inclusive Dementia Communities programme for the assistance services offered to passengers with dementia. The programme is supported by the Alzheimer's Society.

Mark Neville, Alzheimer’s Society community development coordinator for Essex, added: “This is a fantastic achievement and making public spaces more accessible and improving understanding is vital in supporting people living with dementia and their families. London Stansted’s commitment to becoming an Inclusive Dementia Community demonstrates its dedication to improving the travel experience not just for people living with dementia but for all passengers, visitors and staff.”

There is still a long way to go to make travel inclusive and accessible, but it is positive to see Stanstead improve their passenger experiences. I hope to see other follow.
