“Seemingly small, everyday moments that are often overlooked can bring immense joy and meaning to life.”
This is all-too-often overlooked. Everyone is busy and we're trained to pay attention to the Big Rocks in our lives – those things that demand the most time and attention. And if everything is prioritized correctly, those Big Rocks really should be the most important things. But don't lose sight of the small moments that make us laugh, smile, feel amazed or appreciated, and maybe even take our breath away.
Humans are internally wired with a “negative bias”. Our ancestors developed keen instincts to survive immediate threats like animal attacks and deadly weather conditions. Today our environments aren't nearly as harsh but evolution hasn't quite caught up. We still tend to focus on the negative or on survival instincts and we fail to appreciate good things right in front of us.
Learning to recognize those little moments that make us feel joy and happiness is a life-long journey. The big moments will speak for themselves, but there aren't nearly enough of them. Enjoying the small, everyday things that lift our spirits is what makes us feel full.
