World's first titanium artificial heart transplant

Medical device technology has taken a giant leap forward with an exciting breakthrough: the world's first titanium artificial heart transplant

This implant, from a company called BiVACOR, recently saved the life of a patient awaiting a heart donor. Built entirely from titanium and featuring just a single moving part—a magnetically suspended rotor—the device is compact, durable, and incredibly efficient. It weighs less than 1.5 pounds and can fit both adults and children as young as 12. 

The patient in this landmark case recovered so well he could leave the hospital while waiting for a permanent donor heart, which he eventually received months later and is now recovering.

Innovations like BiVACOR are life-changing for many thousands of patients around the world who are waiting for heart transplants. They are dramatically improving quality of life every day.
