This weekend, I celebrated my grandmother’s 92nd birthday. Born and raised in Bosnia, she has lived through nearly a century of change, growing her own food, reusing everything and living by the “waste not, want not” principle. Her way of life has always been deeply rooted in the resourcefulness and understanding that nature gives, but never without limit.

Today we call that circular thinking. It is not just a nostalgic ideal, but a necessary shift in how we operate and design for the future. That mindset has stayed with me and continues to shape how I see the world, including the work we do at Intertek. Whether helping companies build more resilient supply chains or design thoughtful end-of-life strategies, our goal is to make circularity both practical and credible.

Earth Day 2025 is a reminder that even small, mindful actions, like those my grandmother has practiced every day, can quietly shape a better future.

As our world continues to face mounting pressures, I often find myself returning to the quiet wisdom my grandmother lives every day. Use what you have, honor where it came from and design with the next life in mind.
