I'm a self-professed tech junkie. I like to see what people are tinkering with and get a glimpse of the future even before it happens. One area that I read about often these days is whether smart glasses could potentially overtake our dependence on smart phones.
Some people want a hands-free experience of seeing everything on their screen. Others argue they don't want to wear glasses (or eventually contact lenses) to communicate, be entertained, or to search for information.
Glasses would be considered a “wearable”, which we know is a fast-growing segment of the electronics market. These smart glasses could let users make calls, get directions, listen to music, scroll social media, and access all the digital tools that currently live on your phone—all while staying more present in the real world.
One of the added benefits of smart glasses would be the integration of augmented reality, which has the capability to completely transform how people work, learn, and play. While the phone can do this today, it's limited because you know you're looking at another device with information on it. With glasses, the screen and the information is right in front of your eyes without the feeling of another device.
There’s still a long road ahead before smart glasses become mainstream, but the idea is compelling: technology that blends into our lives instead of interrupting them.
