Why cats prefer to sleep on their left side may be part of a survival strategy

I bet there are loads of cat lovers out there who didn't know this little nugget of info about their favorite feline.

An international research team has discovered that domestic cats prefer to sleep on their left side. The study analyzed 408 YouTube videos and found that two-thirds of the cats slept on their left side. This position allows cats to process visual information with their right brain hemisphere, which is specialized in spatial awareness and threat detection, potentially enhancing their ability to react to predators or prey upon awakening.

The researchers see this bias as an evolutionary advantage because it favors hunting and escape behavior after waking up.

And now that you know this, I bet you'll be looking at your cats more closely to see if they really do sleep on the left side!

If a cat sleeps on its left shoulder and wakes up, visual information about predators or prey goes directly to the right hemisphere of the brain, which is best in processing them.
