I think what the Pet Sustainability Coalition is doing here is honestly awesome. It’s such a smart and necessary move to start looking at the plastic waste we generate for our pets—something most of us don’t really think about. Teaming up with rePurpose Global to clean up 250,000 pounds of plastic during Plastic Free July is a huge step, and it’s great to see the pet industry finally getting some attention in the sustainability space.
I love the idea of the “paw print”—it’s such a simple way to help people understand just how much waste comes from everyday pet products. Things like food bags, toys, and grooming items are mostly made with materials that can’t be recycled, and it really adds up. As a pet owner, this definitely makes me think twice about the choices I’m making when I shop for my animals.
What’s even better is that this isn’t just a one-month campaign. The PSC has been working on this for years, and now they’ve got support from big names like PetSmart and Petco, plus funding matches to double the impact. It’s exciting to see real, collaborative action happening—and it gives me hope that we can make real changes in how we care for our pets and the planet at the same time.
