Louisville, Kentucky, USA has kicked off Plastic Free July 2025, a month-long campaign led by Mayor Craig Greenberg and the Office of Sustainability to challenge residents, businesses, and organizations to reduce single-use plastic waste throughout the community.

As part of this global initiative spanning over 190 countries, the city is providing practical tips, spotlighting local businesses embracing sustainable alternatives, and encouraging actions like swapping plastic bags, bottles, and utensils for reusable items.

With around 87,000 tons of plastic entering Louisville landfills each year, even simple daily changes can have a significant environmental impact

I believe that reducing plastic use isn’t just a good idea—it’s essential. Single-use plastics should be a thing of the past, and this month offers a great opportunity to start shifting habits. I challenge everyone in Louisville (and beyond!) to join in: refuse disposable items, invest in reusable alternatives, and share your progress. Whether you’re pledging to bring your own mug, carry reusable bags, or skip plastic straws, let’s make Plastic Free July a turning point toward cleaner streets, healthier ecosystems, and a culture built on sustainability.
