Chile leads push for 'Latam-GPT'

AI continues its global takeover, and Latin America isn’t sitting out. Over 30 institutions across the region are building “Latam-GPT,” a homegrown chatbot. Surprisingly, it actually speaks the local ‘language’ and has been trained on local slang, culture, and Indigenous languages. While U.S.-made bots rely on Spain-centric or translated data, this one learns straight from Latin American schools, libraries, and archives.

Led by Chile, it’s a bold move to put the region’s voice and values at the center of the AI revolution!

The Chile-led “Latam-GPT” project is trained on text from local schools, libraries, and historical documents, and is designed to include Indigenous languages and dialect variations.
