Treading Lightly: The Path to Responsible Tyres

In a single-use world, where more and more items are made, shipped, used, and discarded, some manufacturers are standing up for sustainability and are finding a new way! The Michelin facility in Stoke-on-Trent is now fully dedicated to the retreading of tyres (tires), and has their only facility in the UK that does retreading.

Michelin's drive for sustainability is having a real, tangable impact on our world.

Five tonnes of raw materials are saved and more than six tonnes of CO2 are prevented from entering the atmosphere for every 100 Remix tyres remanufactured.

Beyond the sustainability benefits of retreading, these premium retread tyres offer superior performance and lifespan than the cheaper alternatives being now imported. Due to the poorer quality, the higher initial cost of the retread tyres can adjust for the price discrepancy between the imported tyres.

This is what it means to Build Back Ever Better: combining industrial excellence with environmental stewardship and social impact. Michelin’s journey shows that responsible manufacturing isn’t just possible - it’s essential.

Michelin is breathing new life into truck and bus tyres through a sophisticated, high quality remanufacturing process. Retreading is a sustainable, longer-lasting alternative to the wasteful single-use tyres
