World Menstrual Hygiene Day is a global initiative dedicated to raising awareness and addressing the challenges that women and girls face in managing their periods—particularly in regions where access to products, education, and facilities remains limited. In Ghana, period poverty continues to be a critical issue, with many young girls missing school due to a lack of resources and societal stigma.

To help break this cycle, the Intertek Ghana Minerals Corporate Social Responsibility team recently hosted an outreach event at Richard Greame Basic School in Samahu. The session, designed for students from Basic 4 through Junior High School 3, focused on education, inclusion, and support.

The 90-minute session covered the importance of menstrual hygiene and encouraged open conversations among both girls and boys. By including all students, the event fostered empathy, understanding, and long-term behavioral change.

To further support the students, the team donated five boxes of sanitary products—some of which were given to the girls directly, while the remainder were used to establish a school “pad bank” for emergency needs. This initiative helps ease financial strain and ensures students have consistent access to essential hygiene products.

This outreach is part of our broader commitment to community engagement and youth empowerment, beginning with education and access to basic needs. We’re proud of our team’s efforts to support positive change—one community at a time.
