Palmer Luckey has become the first person to take delivery of the Jetson One, a $128,000 electric ultralight aircraft that promises to make personal flight a reality. He completed the inaugural test flight in California, receiving brief training before taking to the air. After landing, he was presented with Jetson pilot wings to mark the occasion.
The Jetson One is a single seat electric aircraft powered by eight motors, capable of reaching speeds of over 60 miles per hour with a flight time of about 20 minutes. Classified as an ultralight in the United States, it does not require a pilot’s license. Only 100 Founders Edition units are being built, featuring premium touches such as leather upholstery, LED lighting, and removable batteries.
Deliveries were delayed as the company refined the design, but Jetson has now sold out production for the next two years, with new orders pushed to 2027. The company is expanding in the United States and Europe, aiming to make personal flight as common as driving. Luckey, best known as the founder of Oculus and Anduril, described the experience with a mix of excitement and ease, reflecting the potential of this breakthrough moment.
For me, the most striking part is how much this feels like stepping into the future. The name Jetson could not be more fitting, as what once felt like science fiction is now becoming part of everyday life. The future is here, and it is taking flight.
The Jetson One is available for purchase, but new orders aren't shipping for a bit. The vehicle costs $128,000, including the $8,000 upfront deposit, and does not require a pilot's license to fly. The company has sold out of 2025 and 2026 vehicles, meaning the earliest shipping year would be 2027.
