I take my dog for a walk most days of the week. We have a route that goes just over 3 miles. It's good for fresh air, exercise, and catching up on my favorite podcasts.
But one thing that never crossed my mind is to walk it backwards! But it just might be something to keep in mind, though I can only imagine the strange looks that other people will give us!
Scientists say that reverse walking can add variety to a regular walking routine, and not only provides a change of view, but also puts different demands on the body. Reverse locomotion can increase hamstring flexibility, strengthen underused muscles, and challenges the mind as the body adjusts to new a movement and posture.
I think, however, it might be best to start on a treadmill. You know, away from the people laughing at my attempt to navigate the world backwards!
Here’s a simple way to switch up your walking routine, according to experts: try going backward.
