Paws, What!? Dogs Are Secretly Listening In on Our Conversations

While studies have already shown that toddlers as young as 18 months can pick up new words simply by overhearing conversations, new research now suggests they’re not alone. A study published in Science finds that some dogs can also learn the names of objects just by listening in on their owners’ everyday interactions.

Like 18-month-old toddlers, scientists say that gifted dogs can learn effectively from both direct and indirect speech.
