On #NationalGardeningDay, I wanted to share the story of how the White House Garden came to be.

What an awesome story coming from the White House about how National Garden Day came about.

"Over our eight years, the food we grew not only found its way to our family’s plates, but also helped nourish thousands of people through local organizations serving those in need. It’s a story I couldn’t be more proud of."

I hoped it might open up a conversation about where our food comes from and how it impacts our children’s health. In the spring of 2009, we broke ground on the South Lawn, planting all sorts of fruits and vegetables.
