Having just moved back to the USA from London, I had not driven a car in nearly 18 months. I was surprised how nervous I was getting behind the wheel again just a few short weeks ago. In fact, I woke up very early and went out for a test run by myself to give myself the freedom of driving without too many cars on the road. It sounds crazy but it is my reality. I have a new fear of driving and part of that is due to not driving for so long and the other is that I am getting used to Florida driving (Sorry Florida but this is not NASCAR :)
I think many towns and cities could benefit from what Hoboken has done to reduce car accidents and even eliminate traffic deaths. Until then... slow down, get off the phone, and be present when you are driving. Your life and everyone else's depends on it.
"Things like trying to improve sightlines at corners by doing what we call daylighting," he said. "So that can be installing something as simple as what we call a vertical delineator post or a flexible bollard. These posts get installed within 25 feet of crosswalks, and they physically restrict cars from parking right up against a crosswalk."
