Very interesting article on how technology can (have already) change the world organization recognizing that some technology companies have amassed as much power as many governments.
Governments realized that they needed to have diplomats liaising directly with tech to balance power. Their participation is essential on the different issues linked to tech such as privacy, misinformation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. GDPR is a good example in Europe.
It makes therefore sense that with this rise in technology influence worldwide, more & more governments from lower-income nations are therefore engaging in integrating tech into diplomacy.
It is especially urgent that countries find ways to bring data, technology, and digital into their diplomatic efforts, as the free, open, and safe internet faces a range of threats, said Melanie Garson, cyber policy lead at the Tony Blair Institute.
