It's easy to ignore something when you do not see it every day. It is easy to think "this does not happen here" or "why are we not helping THAT country with this issue". It's because child labour is not isolated to one place... it is EVERYWHERE and it is our responsibility to keep our children safe.
Child labor is a violation of children's rights. It robs children of their right to education, hampers their physical and cognitive development, and exposes them to various forms of exploitation, abuse, and health hazards.
Efforts to combat child labor involve a combination of legislation, policies, and programs aimed at protecting children's rights, promoting access to education, and creating opportunities for families to escape poverty. International organizations, such as the International Labor Organization (ILO), work with governments, NGOs, and other stakeholders to raise awareness, establish regulations, and enforce laws against child labor.
While progress has been made in reducing child labor globally, it remains a persistent problem in many parts of the world. Continued efforts and collaboration are necessary to eradicate child labor and ensure that every child has the opportunity to enjoy their childhood and access education for a brighter future.
While the percentage of children in child labour is highest in low-income countries, their numbers are actually greater in middle-income countries. 9% all children in lower-middle-income countries, and 7% of all children in upper-middle-income countries, are in child labour. Statistics on the absolute number of children in child labour in each national income grouping indicate that 84 million children in child labour, accounting for 56% of all those in child labour, actually live in middle-income countries, and an additional 2 million live in high-income countries.
