Fight to Fly is an eye opening and upsetting documentary about the indignity and challenges passengers with disabilities face when flying. The documentary was broadcast on Channel 4 on the 22nd July and can be streamed online. Sophie Morgan hosts the documentary and follows three groups of disabled people flying from different airports in the UK to Europe on three different airlines.
As we followed each group, we witnessed the reality of what it is like to travel with a disability, from Spencer who had to drag himself across the floor to the toilet because there was no aisle chair to arriving at your destination to find your specialist wheelchair is broken and unusable.
Sophie started Rights on Flights in late 2023 for campaign for change, since inception Sophie and the team have put forward an Assisted air Travel Bill in the UK and Sophie has been to the Whitehouse and met President Biden.
It is honestly a deeply upsetting watch to see fellow humans being treated with such distane and lack of respect. Let's do our part by raising awareness and supporting Right on Flights to drive change.
At one point, we see one of the undercover campaigners, Spencer – who has a spinal-cord injury – ask a flight attendant whether the plane has an aisle chair in order for him to be able to transfer out of his seat to use the bathroom. They don’t. Instead, we – and his fellow passengers – watch as he drags his body along the floor of the plane to get to the toilet.
