As a part of our efforts to Build Back Ever Better, Intertek Minerals has commenced a waste management initiative at their Global Centre of Excellence in Perth, Western Australian to separate the majority of the polystyrene, polypropylene, and high density polyethylene plastics used throughout the laboratory from the general waste. Partnering with Green Machines Lab, the laboratory will recycle these plastics as opposed to sending them to landfill. Green Machines Lab is a Perth based company that recycles plastics to be reused within Australia.

When fully operational in all areas of the laboratory, Intertek Minerals Perth anticipates that they will recycle over 1.5 tonnes of plastic per month that would have previously gone to landfill. They hope to roll this initiative out to other Intertek Minerals laboratories within Australia.

The Minerals Global Centre of Excellence was built with sustainability in mind. This new waste management initiative complements existing sustainability initiatives featured at the facility including a 990kW solar system, one of the largest rooftop solar installations in Western Australia. The solar system currently provides on average a third of the daytime power required by the laboratory. The facility also captures and recycles laboratory wastewater to conserve this precious resource. With the application of sustainability through all parts of the facility we are seeing improvements in energy consumption, water management and emission reductions through the harnessing of solar energy.
