One minute we are a technologically advanced society, able to connect humans and machines from far-reaching parts of the world at light-speed with images, audio, and data.
The next minute, we're silenced and stopped in our tracks because a thin cable was accidentally (or not?) cut or frayed.
As important as it is to save and protect our environment and natural resources, I think we also need to find ways to protect (and expand) the networks and equipment that bring the world together.
The global network of underwater cables forms a large part of the internet’s backbone, carrying the majority of data around the world and eventually linking up to the networks that power cell towers and Wi-Fi connections. Subsea cables connect New York to London and Australia to Los Angeles.
