Innovations at Tesla aim to ramp-up production and reduce costs

Tesla is leading the race in EV adoption -- at least in North America -- and they are now working on a new innovation that could help them build more cars AND support low price points.

Like many industries, their engineers are looking at 3D printing and how it can efficiently create equally-viable components at significantly reduced costs. This new process could reduce the existing process of 400 components down to just one: the entire underbody of the car.

Tesla is closing in on a new manufacturing process that could significantly reduce costs and increase production of its electric vehicles. According to sources who spoke to Reuters, the new process will enable the automaker to die-cast almost the entire vehicle underbody as a single piece instead of building out about 400 parts using conventional car-building techniques.
