Achieving carbon neutrality is a crucial goal for Mexico's sustainable future. This path is filled with both challenges and opportunities. Challenges include reducing emissions from industries like energy and transportation, while ensuring a just transition for affected workers and communities. However, Mexico is rich in renewable energy resources like solar and wind, presenting a significant opportunity for green innovation and job creation. International collaborations and policies promoting clean energy adoption will play a vital role. As Mexico works towards carbon neutrality, it's essential to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, creating a greener and more prosperous future for all.
As countries like Mexico face episodes of destructive hurricanes, prolonged droughts and other effects derived from climate change, there will be a growing social demand for companies to declare the carbon footprint of their products or services, and commit in the medium and long term to a zero balance of their emissions and compensations, that is, they achieve a balance of neutrality in their carbon emissions. In this context, the Mexican economy has gone from 15th place to currently being one of the ten main carbon emitters globally, so our country will soon have to resume strategies, mandatory and voluntary, to reduce emissions in strategic sectors. such as energy, oil and gas, mining, cement, automotive, tourism and the construction and infrastructure development sector itself.
