2024 to be the year of public hygiene, with targeted measures to improve cleanliness

For individuals with germ anxiety like myself, Singapore's initiative to declare 2024 the "Year of Public Hygiene" is a commendable step. This decision addresses the demand for better hygiene practices through community engagement in maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. By emphasizing shared responsibility and specific strategies, Singapore aims to create a healthier living environment for everyone. This approach could serve as a model for other countries prioritizing public health and hygiene.

Speaking at her ministry’s budget debate on March 4, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said: “Sustaining high levels of public hygiene requires active participation of all of us. The Government, businesses, communities and individuals must all work together to contribute to a clean environment, safe food, clean air and clean water.”
