Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana exchange lessons, experiences on combating deforestation

Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana are collaborating to exchange vital lessons and experiences in the fight against deforestation, particularly in the context of cocoa production. This exchange entails sharing best practices in sustainable land management, reforestation efforts, and the promotion of agroforestry practices among cocoa farmers.

Moreover, discussions encompass policy development aimed at implementing stricter regulations to curb illegal deforestation and protect biodiversity. Both countries emphasize community engagement through outreach programs and the empowerment of local stakeholders. This joint effort underscores the significance of international collaboration in addressing global environmental challenges and sets a positive example for other cocoa-producing nations.

The Ghana Forestry Commission, in collaboration with the USAID-funded West Africa Biodiversity and Low Emissions Development (WABiLED) Programme, hosted a workshop and field visit for Côte d’Ivoire’s Permanent Executive Secretariat for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (SEP-REDD+).
