Facebook's parent company, Meta, has developed a new application supporting its AR/VR products that will digitally map the insides of your home or business.

In one sense it's helpful for those using technology such as Meta's Quest VR headset or the Apple Vision Pro. You can wander through virtual space without bumping into walls or furniture, which is always nice.

But another way it's useful is to build an AI library of information about the room or the building overall. Asking questions such as “how many pots of paint would it take to paint this room?” might be helpful to know before you head to the store.

There are already some apps that use photos from your phone and Augmented Reality to determine how a new piece of furniture would look in a particular room. Imagine now being able to see the room in 360-degree VR, easily changing one piece for another or moving things around the room until you're happy with the design.

As breakthroughs continue on the gaming and entertainment side of AR/VR, new productivity uses will be discovered as well.
