“Trees show us what community means” and so, so much more. Our world can, more often than not, feel quite overwhelming. Personally, untying the chaotic knot of childhood trauma, managing a chronic illness, and shouldering all the responsibilities of both adult/parenthood come at a high cost. Creative energy has always sustained me, but it is peace and nature that restore me. Even in my region where I must battle against the heat and humidity (and mosquitos!), I find the time to get out on my local trails and stare into the greenery, stop to rub my hands along the bark of the many grand, large oaks that dot our area (I must be a sight to passersby), breathe in the scent of pine or, if I am lucky, petrichor—all in an effort to restore.

Reading “The Importance of Forest Access: Trees Define Community”, I was reminded of the profound impact nature has on our well-being. The shared experiences in the article resonate deeply with me, especially those of finding solace and healing in the forest. Trees show us what it means to be part of a community, providing not just physical but also emotional and spiritual sustenance. It's crucial to preserve these green spaces for our collective health and happiness.
