This article is from 2019 however every bit of advice in here could not be more true. Whether you are a new employee to a company, joining a new team, or relocating within the same organisation the onboarding process sets the precedence for your career path and your experience.

It is critical that we invest in the people that will inevitably be the voice of the organisation. It is the first and often the most important opportunity to show that employee that your mission statement is more than a plaque on the wall but rather a way of life for the company. In doing so, that employee is empowered with a sense of belonging, ownership, and motivation that can not be instilled simply with a mandatory online onboarding video.

When I joined my organisation back in 2010 I was lucky to be part of a group that truly cared about what they were doing and who they were doing it with. There was a sense of being part of something bigger, a team. A team that won together, sometimes lost together, but above all else we stayed together. It is why after 11 years I am still here, with a different team in a different location but what I learned and more importantly how I felt in those first few weeks have stuck with me and always will.
