We've been incorrectly measuring "dog years" all this time

Throw out everything you thought you knew when it comes to comparing "dog years" to human years, and for good reason.

For how long have you heard "7 human years for every dog year" when comparing a pup to a person? So your six-year-old shepherd mix is 6x7=42 years old, right? Not so fast.

These new studies take into account a much faster aging and maturing process in young dogs, much faster than humans. Instead of being a simple 7-to-1 ratio it's now measured more on a curve. A year-old dog is now considered to be the equivalent of a 30 year-old human.

According to the formula, a one-year-old dog is equivalent to a 30-year-old human, while a four-year-old dog is equivalent to a 52-year-old human. This new formula suggests that dogs age rapidly in their first two years, with a two-year-old dog equivalent to a 42-year-old human.
