For anyone like me, who uses a screen reader on social media, the auto generated image descriptions are useless most of the time.
The Problem With Meta's Auto-Generated Image Descriptions article compares a set of images with the auto-generated image description and the description a human would write for the image. The contrast between auto-generated and human generated descriptions is extreme. As a sighted user, you can see how much information screen reader users are missing.
Ensure your images on social media are accessible and useful by adding alt-text/image descriptions yourself.

Auto-Generated Image Description from Facebook: "May be an image of 1 person and twilight." Custom Image Description: "Woman joyfully holding up a transparent umbrella lined with twinkling lights. Behind her, the horizon line glows orange from the last light of the setting sun while the dark sky overhead is dotted with constellations and a single shooting star."
