African children are disproportionately affected by climate change and it is a humanitarian crisis that cannot be ignored. As reported by Saudi Gazette, these young individuals are bearing the brunt of environmental changes, facing dire consequences such as malnutrition, water scarcity, and disrupted education.
It's not just an African issue; it's a global responsibility. The story underscores the urgent need for climate action that addresses the vulnerabilities of the world's most marginalized communities. Real solutions must be equitable, taking into account the disparate impacts of climate change on different demographics. It’s high time to act, for their futures and ours.
Children in 48 out of 49 African countries assessed were found to be at high or extremely high risk of the impacts of climate change, based on their exposure and vulnerability to cyclones, heatwaves and other climate and environmental shocks, and access to essential services. Those living in the Central African Republic, Chad, Nigeria, Guinea, Somalia and Guinea-Bissau are most at risk.
