Safeguarding "Made in Italy" Takes Center Stage at Milan Fashion Week

As the world of fashion descended on Milan for Fashion Week in September, the spotlight stretched beyond the runways to Italy’s manufacturing heart. Industry leaders used the occasion to address intensifying scrutiny over supply chains, where recent scandals have cast a shadow on the prestige of the “Made in Italy” label. Calls for transparency and higher standards underscored the realization that creative excellence cannot be separated from ethical production.

Leaders from Max Mara, Prada, Moncler, Zegna, Dolce & Gabbana, and OTB stood alongside the Camera Nazionale della Moda to stress that Italy’s heritage of craftsmanship, sustainability, and ethical practices must remain the backbone of luxury. Their call for stronger regulation came in the wake of recent supply chain scandals and heightened global competition. Speakers emphasized that creativity, family tradition, and know-how remain Italy’s edge, but protecting workers and ensuring fairness in supply chains is now just as vital.

The message is clear: for luxury to maintain its credibility, it must pair artistry with accountability, making Milan Fashion Week as much about safeguarding values as showcasing collections.

It’s easy to make news of scandals, but you have to value what you see and support the thousands of workers in this industry.
