Ørsted Commits to Recycling Wind Turbine Blades

While wind turbines are being deployed at an accelerating pace to provide renewable energy, the turbine blades are heading to landfill. In a drive to hit carbon neutral by 2040, Ørsted have committed to recycling the blades.

This article highlighted to me, that as a consumer I need to think far beyond the sustainability of the product I use (renewable energy) and into the supply chain and full life cycle of assets used in producing the energy I use Our actions as consumers influence our suppliers to be more sustainable, lets use our voices to Build Back Ever Better.

According to Ørsted, between 85% and 95% of a wind turbine can be recycled, but recycling of blades remains a challenge, as they are designed to be lightweight, yet durable, making them difficult to break apart. Consequently, most decommissioned blades are landfilled.
