Air travel for anyone with a wheelchair is challenging and not a good expan enjoyable experiencee many horror stories of disabled passengers being left on planes for hours, being left with damaged or lost wheelchairs. Any improvement in air travel for wheelshair users is welcomed. For many, the ability to take their own wheelchair on a flight is the ideal.

Delta are backing a new seat design called Air 4 All that promises to deliver the ability for wheelchair users to fly in their own chairs, no embarrassing and uncomfortable seat transfers.

The Air 4 All seat design offers comfort and safety for all passengers by providing access to a headrest, centre console, tray tables and cocktail table. The product also enables airlines to retain the design of their cabin on every seat. The design partners also say that implementation of the seat facilitates a more seamless boarding and disembarking experience for passengers with reduced mobility (PRMs).

A full prototype of the seat will be debuted at Aircraft Interiors Expo 2023 (AIX) in Hamburg, Germany. Following the exhibition, the Air 4 All seat will be sent for final design and validation. Testing and certification programmes to install the seat will begin once certified.
