As often as I hear "Can Twitter be saved," I just as frequently hear "Should Twitter be saved?

I admit, I like Twitter. At least I like the idea of it. To me it's like having an ongoing global group chat where word spreads at the speed of light. Of course everyone has an opinion and can share their views so you have to have a thick skin.

Over the last 5 years or so the platform has seen some dark days, littered with misinformation bots and political extremism and an increased level of vitriol and intolerance. Perhaps it's just mirroring the rest of society? Perhaps it's contributing to it? In any case, Twitter's value has suffered as a result. Elon Musk has a lot of money and influence, but he couldn't prevent advertisers, investors, and users leaving the platform.

Maybe new CEO Linda Yaccarino can bring them back. That's their plan, anyway. As she starts to reveal more of the roadmap and the vision, it seems clear that revenue is #1. They have to rebuild relationships with advertisers who left over political, cultural, principle reasons. They have to bring users back so advertisers will pay top prices. They have to make it valuable again. And oh-by-the-way, it won't be long before the "revenue phase" honeymoon starts to transition to a "profitability phase" and that's when things will really get interesting.

For now, whether you use Twitter or enjoy Twitter or despise everything Twitter has become, it should be interesting to see how it plays out.

In the meantime, I'll be on there following discussions of my favorite sports teams and a select few other topics.
