The world’s biggest carbon capture facility is being built in Texas

The US government is investing billions of dollars in direct air capture (DAC), a technology that removes carbon dioxide (CO 2) from the atmosphere using fans and chemical reactions. The world's largest DAC project, called Stratos, is being built in Texas by an oil company that claims it will help preserve the industry and fight climate change.

However, some critics argue that DAC is a costly distraction from cutting emissions and a greenwashing strategy by the fossil fuel industry. They also question the feasibility and impact of DAC, which is still in its infancy and has a negligible effect on the global carbon budget.

There is no quick and easy answer to reducing climate change, we need to be bold and try different technologies and acknowledge that it will take many initiatives to move the needle. DAC is just one such technology.

What will you do today to help reduce climate change?

“This time the Earth has some serious complications, and it needs the brightest minds,” Guetre said, adding that “that the world is watching and counting on us ... The team’s will to overcome is quiet, steady and unwavering.”
