Dhaka Residents Suffer as Waterlogging Issues Persist Following Heavy Rain

Prolonged Waterlogging Crisis Grips Dhaka, Seeking Solutions

Residents in Dhaka's heart are still dealing with the aftermath of heavy rains that pounded the city, submerging many areas. Waterlogged streets and neighbourhoods are causing immense suffering for the people of Dhaka. The situation has raised concerns over the city's inadequate drainage system and urban planning. Many are questioning the city authorities' preparedness to tackle such emergencies, with sewage systems clogged and roads impassable. It emphasises the critical need for long-term solutions to Dhaka's recurring waterlogging woes as the primary source's heart.

Residents have taken to social media to express their frustration, using hashtags such as #DhakaWaterlogging and #UrbanFlooding. The crisis has also prompted calls for immediate action from local governments and urban planners to address the root causes of water stagnation. As the monsoon season continues, sustainable solutions must be implemented to alleviate the suffering of Dhaka's residents and safeguard the city's future against such challenges.

The two city corporations of Dhaka, which are in charge of easing waterlogging in the city, said they have been working to remove water from the flooded areas, but the problem persists for long due to insufficient drainage system and plastics blocking the sewage system in some areas. City planners said different organisations including the city corporations, Water Supply and Sewerage Authority, Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha, Water Development Board are responsible for the waterlogging in Dhaka.
