Consequences of Skilled Workforce Migration

According to a recent report by the UNPF, Bangladesh is currently enjoying a demographic dividend. This means we have a window of opportunity where the unique population ratio reflects that our nation has a significant working population.

A 2018 BIDS survey found that 39% of Bangladeshi youth aged 15-29 were willing to migrate abroad for work. These young individuals can quickly learn new things, undertake new tasks, and work more to impact the economy by improving their lives.

However, our country is facing a significant challenge in the form of brain drain. To unlock the potential of these young individuals and capture the returns, we need to invest heavily in healthcare, education, and skills development.
