Microsoft have been rolling out Immersive Reader into many of its products over the last few years, from Microsoft Office and Teams to Microsoft Edge. Immersive reader provides the ability to read aloud or to change the display of the text being read. LinkedIn is the latest product to include Immersive Reader.
With LinkedIn encouraging long form content, the inclusion of Immersive Reader will help ensure that no one is excluded from the community. I will personally find the read aloud functionality useful, while others I know will benefit from being able to show just one line at a time.
To help drive inclusion, Microsoft have made Immersive Reader available for others to include in products and services.
Every article and newsletter will feature the Immersive Reader icon, which provides access to several accessibility tools. A text-to-speech function can read articles out loud. LinkedIn says that "distinguishing between words that are spelled the same but pronounced differently makes it easier for auditory learners and those with visual impairments to consume and process content." The tool supports more than 60 languages. On a similar note, Immersive Reader powers real-time translation for more than 100 languages.
