A piece from the Columbia Climate School’s State of the Planet project cites McKinsey’s estimate that people now “buy 60 percent more than they did in 2000, and keep it half as long.” But that’s only part of the problem: the other part is that clothes are being made with synthetic polymers, harboring microplastics that are released as the material breaks down – assuming it is not upcycled or recycled at the point of use. And we see the glut of clothes headed for landfills!
