Where to find an Accessible Playground in the UK?

Back at the beginning of March, I posted 'First of its kind' playground for disabled children opens in UK. Since then, I came across an Accessible Playground Map by Scope (UK Charity for people with disabilities). In 2023, they assessed 1000 playgrounds across the UK for their level of accessibility.

They provide the results of this as an interactive map, allowing parents and carers to find playbrounds that may be accessible for their children. Each playground was assessed on its features and how inclusive they are. Scores were applied with an overall colour rating being applied of Green Star for fully inclusive, through Green, Amber and Red. Less than 1% of playgrounds received the Green Star rating, 1% had a green rating, with 47% having a Red rating.

Inclusive play is critical to creating a more inclusive society, allowing all children to play together rather than having special areas and creating barriers that will last a lifetime…..

In the summer of 2023, we launched The Play Investigation. 1,083 Scope campaigners visited 1,004 local playgrounds. They answered some questions to see how accessible and inclusive the playground was for disabled children.
