The World Is Losing Migratory Species at Alarming Rates

Nearly half of internationally protected migratory species are on their way to extinction according to the latest UN study.

And the situation might be even worse, as bureaucracy mandates that 133 state parties involved have to “agree”, that a species should be listed. And with interests of companies and countries being affected by stricter laws, there is often a reluctance to recognize and acknowledge the real situation. So the Bonn Convention currently only covers about a quarter of the world’s known migratory species, amongst them ONE insect (the monarch butterfly).

We CAN fix this if we act now!

“There is hope if we act now to protect, connect and restore species populations and their habitats,” said Malsch, the head of Nature Conserved at the U.N. Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre.
