WelcoMe is a digital solution allowing disabled people to connect with retailers and venues ahead of their visit to let them know about accommodations and assistance needed. Currys trialed the technology across Birmingham UK in March and is expanding the trial to a further 20 stores across London.

In addition to providing a way to communicate with stores, sharing specific requirements ahead of a visit - the solution includes training and guidance to employees, helping them to be more confident and supportive when consumers visit. Consumers can set up their profile with information once, and not need to provide it every time they interact with a retailer or venue, saving time and effort.

In my opinion, all retailers and venues need to be ready to welcome anyone at any time and the onus shouldn't be put on the consumer to alert ahead of visiting.  However, I do see the advantage of this technology when used in addition and not a replacement for high quality training and good customer service.
