With long waitlists and barriers to access, it's no surprise that more people are turning to AI chatbots for mental health support. I’ve seen firsthand how these tools can offer a sense of comfort and connection when traditional therapy isn't immediately available. Chatbots provide 24/7, judgment-free support—sometimes all you need in a moment is to feel heard, even if it’s by a bot.

They’re especially helpful for practicing coping strategies, sorting through thoughts, or even just having a “safe” space to talk without fear of stigma. For someone managing stress, anxiety, or loneliness, that accessibility can be powerful.

But while these digital companions have benefits, they aren’t a substitute for professional care. A chatbot can’t read between the lines, recognize when someone is in crisis, or offer nuanced therapeutic interventions. There’s also the issue of data privacy—what you share may not be protected in the same way it would be with a licensed therapist.

I see AI chatbots as a useful supplement, not a replacement. They can bridge the gap while you're waiting for an appointment or help reinforce strategies outside of sessions. But lasting mental health care still needs the empathy, expertise, and ethical responsibility that only a trained human professional can provide.

Bottom line, if you need a bit of help to get through a moment, a month, a year or more, get the help you need, how you need it. Your mental health is as important as your physical health.

Wishing you a happy day.
