In a bold move that blends tradition with innovation, Goa’s Rhea Distilleries has unveiled India’s first paper bottle, marking a major milestone in sustainable packaging and international trade. Launched in the UK, this eco-conscious innovation is more than a packaging upgrade—it’s a symbol of how small design shifts can lead to big environmental wins.
The paper bottle is lightweight, recyclable, and made from renewable materials, offering a compelling alternative to plastic and glass. It’s designed to reduce carbon emissions and waste across the product lifecycle, aligning with growing consumer demand for sustainable choices in the beverage industry.
But the impact goes beyond packaging. This launch represents an international trade breakthrough, showcasing how cross-border collaboration can accelerate green innovation and open new markets for environmentally responsible products. It’s a win for sustainability, business, and diplomacy.
Rhea Distilleries is proving that sustainability and style can coexist, and that even legacy industries can evolve toward a circular future. Their paper bottle exemplifies the BBEB philosophy: building back ever better by embedding environmental responsibility into every layer of innovation.
This is what progress looks like - where packaging becomes part of the solution, not the problem!
Developed by Ipswich-based Frugalpac, the Frugal Bottle is the world’s first commercially available paper bottle for wines and spirits. Comprising 94% recycled paperboard and a food-grade liner, it is five times lighter than glass and boasts a carbon footprint up to six times lower.
