Are You Exercising for Your Mental Health, or Just to Escape Your Problems?

As one who enjoys working up a good sweat, I'd not really considered how my daily exercise might be a form of escapism. Is escapism all that terrible when paired with the many benefits daily exercise provides? Unlikely, in my opinion, though I think the point this article brings attention to is the need for mindfulness. Mindfulness in all things! Even those which we consider healthy or largely beneficial.

The authors propose that there are two kinds of escapism: one in which you’re trying to experience new things or resolve problems in your life, and another in which you’re just avoiding or suppressing things you need to deal with. Or to put it another way: You’re just running away from your problems.
