Olympic athletes require a lot of things for peak performance during the Games, but a cool place to rest has to be among the key needs. But, often cooling a room comes at a price for the environment, and the Paris 2024 Olympics are working to be one of, if not the most sustainable international competitions ever held. 

Rather than using traditional air conditioners, event organizers are planning to keep the athlete's rooms cool using a combination of an underground water system and insulation. The goal is to ensure that indoor temperatures stay between 73 and 79 degrees Fahrenheit (23 and 26 degrees Celsius).

The village that will house thousands of Olympic and Paralympic athletes will use the same technology that kept the iconic Louvre museum cool during last summer’s heat waves, and fortunately the location is by the Seine River, making water easily accessible for the cooling system.
